The Fronte Rechberg, a section of the former Ingolstadt State Fortress, is part of the inner fortress ring and shows the Neoclassical fortress architecture of the 19th century.

History+

The Ingolstadt State Fortress underwent several expansion phases, starting with medieval fortifications. After its destruction by Napoleonic troops in 1801, King Ludwig I decided from 1828 to rebuild it as the royal Bavarian main state fortress. Against the resistance of the fortress construction commission and commander-in-chief Wrede, he enforced Ingolstadt as the location.
