Fortress Ingolstadt-Zwischenwerk Nr. 2 Friedrichshofen (Werk 190)
Intermediate Work No. 2 Friedrichshofen (Work 190), part of the former Ingolstadt Fortress, is situated in a wooded area along Ochsenmühlstraße. It is one of only two intermediate works on the left bank of the Danube originally planned with a moat.
History+
The Ingolstadt State Fortress underwent several expansion phases. Intermediate Work Friedrichshofen belongs to the outer fortress ring, construction of which began in 1875. This ring became necessary to accommodate the increased range of modern artillery shells. The original plans for the intermediate works, unlike others, included a moat.
On site+
Today, Intermediate Work No. 2 Friedrichshofen (Work 190) is largely destroyed, with only masonry rubble and the moat still visible. The area is used as a BMX track and is publicly accessible.
