Intermediate Work No. 5 Großmehring is a fortress within the outer ring of fortifications in Ingolstadt, Bavaria. It has a construction featuring a dry moat and a system of underground passages and caponiers, setting it apart from all other structures of the Ingolstadt State Fortress.

History+

The construction of Intermediate Work No. 5 Großmehring took place between March 23, 1891, and March 22, 1894. It was the only intermediate work of its kind to be fully developed with a dry moat. Its defensive features included reverse caponiers, connected to the main work by underground passages, which covered the moat. An additional caponier secured the gorge of the work. Furthermore, the complex featured a capital postern and a blockhouse to enhance its resistance against assaults.
