Kastellet Fortress is a historical structure on the island of Kastellholmen in Stockholm. Originally built in the 17th century, it was reconstructed in the 19th century after its destruction and has since shaped the city's skyline.
History+
The first fortress on this site was completed in 1667. The design and construction were overseen by Erik Dahlbergh. An accident occurred in June 1845 when the fortress exploded. Reconstruction took place between 1846 and 1848, with architect Fredrik Blom responsible for the redesign.
