The Ključ Fortress, an impressive ruin, is perched on a hill in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its strategic location made it an important military base for centuries and bears witness to a turbulent history.
History+
The construction of Ključ Fortress is presumed to have taken place in the first half of the 14th century. A pivotal event in its history was the capture of the last Bosnian king, Stjepan Tomašević, by the Turkish army at this site in 1463. Due to its significant military importance, the fortress was continuously expanded over time. Until 1838, it housed a full Turkish garrison whose task was to control the important traffic routes through the Sana Valley.

Ključ Fortress is located in the town of Ključ, in the Banja Luka district, situated in the Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It stands at an elevation of approximately 342 meters above sea level.
