Koblenz-Horchheimer Torbefestigung Fortress

Between 1864 and 1867, the Horchheim Gate Fortification was constructed as part of the Niederehrenbreitstein system to protect the newly built Pfaffendorf railway bridge and integrate the Ehrenbreitstein harbor into Koblenz's defense strategy. The complex included a casemated battery and a crenellated wall extending to the Glockenberg redoubt. When the right Rhine line was extended towards Cologne in 1869, a viaduct cut through the fortification. After World War I, the facility had to be de-fortified according to the Treaty of Versailles, with damage being comparatively minor.
