The Fort can be visited

Fort de Battice, a fortress in the Belgian province of Liège, was once part of the defensive ring around the city. This modern fortress, on an elevated position, played a role in the military conflicts of the 20th century.

History+

The origins of the Liège-Fort de Battice fortress date back to before World War I, when Belgian General Henri Alexis Brialmont had a ring of twelve forts built around Liège. These structures, constructed from concrete and equipped with weaponry, were considered impregnable. However, in World War I, they did not withstand German attacks for long and were quickly neutralized by heavy artillery like the “Big Bertha.” After the war, the eastern, southern, and northern forts were rebuilt, and the defensive ring was expanded.
