The Fort can be visited

Near the city of Liège in the Walloon region of Belgium is the Fortress Liège-Fort de Loncin. As part of a ring of fortifications around the city, it played a role in military history and is now a memorial site.

History+

The modern fortifications around Liège were built between 1880 and 1890 at the initiative of Belgian General Henri Alexis Brialmont. These forts, including Loncin, were located approximately seven kilometers from the city center and were constructed from concrete and equipped with weaponry. At the beginning of World War I, the forts were considered impregnable. However, German attackers quickly overcame them with heavy artillery, known as 'Big Bertha'.
