Kavalier IV is a remnant of the Magdeburg Fortress, which from the early 18th century until 1912 was one of the most important Prussian defensive structures.
History+
The first fortifications of Magdeburg can be traced back to the 13th century. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the facilities were extensively expanded due to the development of firearms, including a second city wall and the fortification of the Elbe front. These reinforcements proved effective during the sieges of 1550/51 and 1629. During the Thirty Years' War, the fortress was expanded under Swedish command but was captured and razed by imperial troops in 1631. After its transfer to Brandenburg-Prussia in 1666, the reconstruction and expansion of the fortress began.
