The Fortress Metz-Fort Lorraine, also known as Feste Lothringen, served as the left stronghold of Metz's fortifications.
History+
The Feste Lothringen was constructed between 1899 and 1905. It was part of the second ring of fortifications built around the city of Metz starting in 1899. This outer ring, situated approximately ten kilometers from the city center, consisted of a newly developed type of fortress and established Metz as the strongest fortress city in the German Empire. The Feste Lothringen was one of several installations that formed this ring, strengthening the city's defenses.
