Proviant Magazin Fortness (Minden)
The Proviant-Magazin (Provisions Magazine) in Minden, East Westphalia, North Rhine-Westphalia, is a four-story Neo-Romanesque building constructed from 1835 to 1836 as part of the Minden Fortress.
Located in the upper old town on dry ground, its purpose as a provisions magazine, along with the army bakery situated next to it, was to ensure the provisioning of the Prussian Army in the Minden Fortress.
The Proviant-Magazin (also called Körnermagazin by the people of Minden) was built from 1835 to 1836 as part of the Minden Fortress and covers 3360 square meters. The attic is equipped with a bomb-proof beam ceiling and a snow floor. The exterior walls are clad with Porta sandstone.
In the final battles for Minden in World War II, it was set on fire by German troops as they left the left bank of the Weser. It burned out and remained a ruin for 30 years. Since 1975, it has housed a school, the Weser-Kolleg.
