The Fortress Strasbourg-Fort I Fransecky (Ney) is a stronghold located in Strasbourg-Robertsau, France, representing military architecture of the late 19th century.

History+

Following the siege of Strasbourg in 1870, which severely damaged the existing fortifications, Prussian authorities decided to secure the city and its surroundings with a modern fortress system. Between 1872 and 1876, twelve forts were built, including Fort I Fransecky, constructed from 1873 to 1876. It was part of a larger fortress belt that extended into the suburbs of Strasbourg and surrounding Alsatian villages. Originally named after German generals, the forts received French names after World War I; thus, Fort Fransecky was renamed Fort Ney in 1918.
