Flederbach Castle

Flederbachschlössl is located in the Parsch district of Salzburg at Rettenpacherstraße 8.

The Flederbach estate was first mentioned in a document in 1360. In 1407, it belonged to the Salzburg citizen Kaspar Lawbinger. The building itself was constructed in the mid-16th century by the Gastein mine owner Martin Strasser and has remained unchanged since then. From 1611 to 1652, the Schlössl was owned by the Salzburg mayor Michael Paumann. Afterwards, the property belonged to the Feyertag family. Subsequent owners included Vinzenz M. Süß (director of the Museum Carolino Augusteum), after 1850 Karl Ritter von Hock, Josef Ritter von Romanko, and Wilhelm Freiherr von Verschuer. In 1912, Heinrich Ferdinand von Habsburg-Lothringen bought the property, and it has belonged to the Habsburg-Tuscany family ever since. In 1970, part of the park was sold and reduced in size by residential block buildings.

Flederbach Castle is a typical late Gothic manor. Four stories are built on a rectangular floor plan, with retaining walls on the ground floor. The building has a steep hip roof. At the corners are four small towers with a hexagonal floor plan and a pyramid roof. The rooms on the ground floor and first floor are largely vaulted (barrel vaults with lunettes), while the upper floors have flat ceilings, some with stucco frames.
