The castle is first mentioned in a document in 1122 under Abbot Reginbert of the Archabbey of St. Peter. In 1687, the university notary Georg von Fontach bought the property. In 1727, the court pharmacist Josef Christoph Mayr acquired the estate. In 1792, a new building was constructed in its present form. In 1872, Countess Anna Revertera von Salandra bought the property. From 1941 to 1993, the building was used as a five-star hotel by the Asamer family. Today it is private property of Fürst Development.
