Foro di Cesare (Forum of Caesar)

The remains of the ancient town can be visited

The Forum of Caesar, also known as Forum Iulium, is the earliest of the Imperial Fora in Rome. It is an extension of the Roman Forum initiated by Gaius Julius Caesar.

History+

Construction of this complex began in 54 BC. For its realization, residential buildings in the Subura district had to be demolished, parts of the Capitoline Hill removed, and the Senate's Curia relocated. Funding was provided by the spoils of war from the Gallic War. A central element of the complex was the Temple of Venus Genetrix, vowed by Caesar before the Battle of Pharsalus and dedicated in 46 BC along with the entire Forum.
