Foro di Traiano (Trajan's Forum)

The remains of the ancient town can be visited

The Forum of Trajan in Rome represents the last of the Roman Imperial Fora. Built under the command of Emperor Trajan, it is considered the best-preserved forum in the city.

History+

In 107 AD, Emperor Trajan began the construction of this forum, designed under the direction of the architect Apollodorus of Damascus. The entire complex was finally inaugurated in 143 AD. To make space for this project, Trajan ordered the removal of the approximately 35-meter-high eastern slope of the Quirinal Hill and the leveling of numerous existing houses.
