Fort Blücher (Wesel)

The origins of the fort date back to the Napoleonic era. Between 1807 and 1813, it was built under the name “Citadelle Napoleon” by order of Napoleon Bonaparte. After a six-month siege of the Wesel fortress, the citadel also fell to Prussian troops. Under the direction of fortress engineer Gotthilf Benjamin Keibel, a reconstruction took place, changing the orientation of the defensive structures to the west. During this time, the complex received its current name, named after Field Marshal Blücher.
