The Fort can be visited

Southwest of Rochester in the county of Kent, England, stands Fort Borstal. The fortress was originally built as part of a comprehensive defense concept and now offers an insight into late 19th-century military architecture.

History+

The construction of Fort Borstal took place between 1875 and 1885, after the Royal Commission on the Defence of the United Kingdom recognized the necessity of such a facility in 1859. The construction was carried out by convict labor. The fort, which was designed with a polygonal layout, was not originally armed. Only during the Second World War was an anti-aircraft battery stationed here.
