Fort du Petit Minou

Construction of the Fort du Petit Minou took place between 1694 and 1697. Its purpose was to defend the Goulet de Brest. Vauban equipped the fort with 240 cannons and a command center for fire control and coordination of ammunition magazines. The complex was reinforced in the 18th and 19th centuries, with the nearby Phare du Petit Minou lighthouse being added in 1848. In 1940, the fort was used by German troops as a blockhouse. After its liberation in September 1944, the remains of a former hotel were demolished. The fort was acquired by the commune and opened to the public in October 2007.
The Fort du Petit Minou is located in Plouzané, in the Finistère department of the Brittany region, France. It stands at an elevation of approximately 30 meters above sea level.
