The Fort can be visited

Fort Horsted is a fortress located in Chatham, Kent, England. As part of a late 19th-century defensive ring, it once protected the Chatham Naval Dockyard.

History+

The planning for Fort Horsted dates back to the Royal Commission Report of 1860, which aimed to re-evaluate the defense of the United Kingdom. Although land defenses were initially cut due to cost-saving measures, a revised program was accepted in the mid-1870s. Construction began in 1879 and, despite significant delays, was only completed in 1889. The fort was built almost entirely of concrete, topped with chalk and earth, so that only the rear section was visible from the outside.
