Fort Kijkduin is situated on the coast of Den Helder in the Netherlands. Originally built under Napoleonic rule, it offers an insight into history as well as a view of the North Sea.

History+

The construction of Fort Kijkduin dates back to 1811 and was carried out on the orders of Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte. His goal was to develop Den Helder into a fortress, comparable to Gibraltar. Approximately 700 soldiers were once stationed in the fortress, securing the coastline.
