Franziskanerinnen der ewigen Anbetung

The origins of the monastery date back to 1898 when Pastor Konrad Kirchner founded the “Episcopal Communicants' Institute.” Thanks to a generous donation from Agnes Philippine Walter, the St. Canisius House in Schwäbisch Gmünd was opened in 1902 to provide religious instruction for Catholic children from the diaspora. Around Agnes Walter, a community of tertiaries soon formed, dedicating themselves to perpetual adoration and producing paraments for diaspora churches. In 1903, this Confraternity of Perpetual Adoration was affiliated with the Roman confraternity of the same name. In 1921, the confraternity was elevated by the bishop to a Congregation of the Third Order of Saint Francis, and the sisters began to wear habits. Canonical recognition and aggregation to the Franciscan Order followed in 1931. The original communicants' institute gradually developed into a children's home with an elementary school, and the community founded several branch houses. During the Nazi era, the St. Canisius House was forcibly closed, but after the war, the sisters returned and rebuilt it into a modern youth welfare institution. Since 1990, the sisters' facilities have been gradually transferred to other sponsoring organizations to secure their future. In 2000, a new monastery church and a new monastery building, designed by Gisberth M. Hülsmann, were consecrated to provide the community with a new place of quiet and encounter.

The monastery is located in the Ostalb region of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, at an elevation of approximately 335 meters above sea level.

The sisters' primary task is perpetual adoration. In addition, they produce church linens and paraments, are involved in kindergartens, homes, and elementary schools, and operate homes for the elderly and nursing homes. The sisters are also active in outpatient nursing care. They maintain several branches within the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart.
