The convent of Besselich was founded around the year 1429. It was inhabited by Franciscan nuns who led their spiritual lives here for centuries. The community significantly shaped the religious and social fabric of the surrounding area. In the course of secularization, the convent was dissolved in 1806, bringing an end to a long era of monastic life at this location.
