The Franciscan Monastery in Nördlingen, also known as Klösterle, was a significant spiritual institution in the Donau-Ries region of Bavaria. It was distinguished by its long history and central location within the city.
History+
The monastery was founded by citizens of Nördlingen before the year 1243. Initially dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary was added from 1279 onwards. For centuries, the Franciscan Observants shaped monastic life at this site. In the course of the Reformation, the monastery was dissolved in 1536. Following secularization, the choir of the monastery church and the convent buildings were demolished. However, the nave of the church remained intact and was later used as a fire station and storage facility.

The former Franciscan Monastery is situated in Nördlingen, a town in the Bavarian district of Donau-Ries. The complex is located at an elevation of approximately 435 meters above sea level.

Today, the preserved building of the former monastery houses a hotel belonging to an international chain. Additionally, the Nördlingen town hall with a theater stage is accommodated within the premises, which is used for cultural events.
