The Franciscan Monastery of Frauenkirchen is a religious edifice in the Austrian Burgenland. Originally known as a pilgrimage site in the 14th century, it has experienced a history of destruction and reconstruction and is now a basilica.

History+

The site's history as a pilgrimage destination dates back to the 14th century. In 1529, the then-existing church, along with the entire village, was destroyed by the Turks, leaving no remnants. After the Esterházys took control of the area in 1622, the church was rebuilt in 1668, and a Franciscan monastery was established. However, these structures also fell victim to the Turks again in 1683.
