The Franciscan Monastery Hamm, dedicated to Saint Agnes, was a significant religious center in the city of Hamm, North Rhine-Westphalia. It was founded in the 15th century and shaped local history for several centuries.

History+

The Franciscan Monastery in Hamm was founded in 1455. Count Gerhard von der Mark zu Hamm provided the Franciscan Observants with the castle chapel of Hamm's city castle, which was dedicated to Saint Agnes. This chapel was later expanded into a monastery church and consecrated in 1515. The other monastery buildings were constructed over time. The monastery existed until its dissolution and secularization in 1825.

The monastery was located in the city of Hamm in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Its geographical elevation is approximately 66 meters above sea level.

On site+

After the secularization, the former monastery church of St. Agnes was granted the status of a parish church. A slightly altered successor building to the church, largely destroyed in World War II, still stands on the same site today. The remaining monastery grounds are used by a secondary school. Numerous street names in the vicinity commemorate the historical significance of the monastery.
