Franziskanerkloster Lügde

The monastery's origins trace back to 1714 when Michael Nueber, a native of Lügde, donated two houses to the Jesuits. After an attempt to establish a Jesuit settlement failed, the Franciscans received the buildings in 1720. They had already been active in pastoral care in Lügde since 1708 and officially established a residence in 1736. Due to the poor condition of the original structures, construction of a new monastery began in 1749 according to plans by Franz Christoph Nagel. The monastery church, dedicated to Saint Liborius, was completed in 1756. The Franciscans, belonging to the Saxon Franciscan Province, dedicated themselves to pastoral care and mission in the surrounding Protestant areas, ran a primary school, and engaged in charitable activities. In 1812, the monastery was dissolved by the Royal Westphalian government, and the buildings were sold.

The Franciscan monastery is located in Lügde, a town in the district of Hameln-Pyrmont in Lower Saxony, Germany.

After its dissolution, the monastery complex initially served as storage. Later, it was acquired by the Catholic parish and converted into a hospital, which operated until 1958. After a period as a private retirement home, the complex underwent several renovations. Today, it houses a parish and youth center, a library, a kindergarten, and a senior day care center, and is used for cultural events.
