Permission for the construction of a Franciscan monastery in Kreuznach was granted in 1472 by Pope Sixtus IV, at the initiative of Elector Friedrich I of the Palatinate and Count Palatine Friedrich I of Palatinate-Simmern. Following the death of the founders, construction was completed in 1481 under Elector Philipp the Sincere and Duke Johann I of Palatinate-Simmern. The monastery, designed for thirty friars, was dedicated to Saint Wolfgang of Regensburg. A miraculous statue of the saint attracted numerous donations. In 1484, the building was handed over to the Holy See and occupied by the friars. The monastery belonged to the Upper German (Strasbourg) monastic province. In the same year, Stefan Fridelin was appointed as discret, and the consecration was performed by Vicar General Johannes Alphart. The monastery cultivated a humanistic veneration of Saints Anne and Mary, as evidenced by the writings of the Franciscan Franz Wiler, who composed his work on the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary here.
