The former Franciscan Tertiaries monastery of Marienwasser, located in Weeze in the district of Kleve, North Rhine-Westphalia, is a historically significant site that reflects the development of monastic life in the region.
History+
The monastery of Marienwasser was founded in 1461. It was inhabited by the Franciscan Tertiaries and was dedicated to Saint Jodocus. For several centuries, the community shaped the religious and cultural life of the surrounding area. In the course of secularization, the monastery was dissolved in 1802, bringing an end to its independent monastic existence.
