Nikolauskloster (Jüchen)

The first documented mention of a St. Nikolaus chapel at this site dates back to 1398. In 1401, the hermit Heinrich von der Blume settled here, and in 1403, he and several other individuals took the vows of the Franciscan Regular Tertiaries, marking the monastery's foundation. A new church was built in 1451. Since its inception, the monastery served as a house monastery and burial site for the Lords of Dyck, later the Counts of Salm-Reifferscheid. Between 1715 and 1746, the building acquired its present appearance. In 1802, the monastery was secularized and became state property. After various uses, including as a leased property and an agricultural school, Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck repurchased the estate in 1806. The church was restored and reopened for services in 1860. From 1905, the Oblates of Mary Immaculate settled in the monastery, transforming it into a center for Catholic popular missions. After World War II, during which it also served as a military hospital, a study home for late vocations was established in 1953, operating until the 2000s. Today, the Oblates run a center for children and family pastoral care here.

The Franciscan Tertiary Monastery of St. Nikolaus is currently an architectural monument. The Oblates of Mary Immaculate utilize the complex as a center for children and family pastoral care. Beneath the monastery church lies the family crypt of the Old Counts and Princes zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck, which has served as a burial site since 1495.
