On the Kapuzinerberg in Salzburg stands the Franziskischlössl, a former defensive structure. Originally designed as part of a fortress system, it served to secure the city and the mountain, and is now an excursion destination with a restaurant.

History+

Archbishop Paris von Lodron had the Franziskischlössl built in 1629 during the Thirty Years' War. It was an integral part of Salzburg's defenses, which at that time was considered one of the best-protected cities in Central Europe. The small castle was dedicated to Saint Francis. In addition to its military function, it was also used as a hunting lodge during peacetime, especially under Max Gandolf von Kuenburg, who further expanded it.
