The Führerhauptquartier Tannenberg was a military installation in the northern Black Forest, near the Alexanderschanze on the Kniebis. It served as a temporary command center during World War II and is now an accessible ruin site.

History+

Planning for Tannenberg began in October 1939, coinciding with preparations for the French campaign. The Todt Organization and private companies expanded an existing Westwall facility. By July 1940, two bunkers with 275 m² of usable space and a barracks of 85 m² were completed, with one bunker serving as Hitler's accommodation and the other as a telecommunications center. A total of 2,340 m³ of concrete was used. Hitler himself stayed at Tannenberg only once, from June 27 to July 5, 1940, after the victory in France.
