In Augsburg, the Prince-Bishop's Residence is a late Baroque structure that now houses the District Government of Swabia.

History+

The residence's origins trace back to the Middle Ages, when three separate houses stood here, including a Palatine Tower that was raised around 1507/1508. Even before 1680, these were consolidated into a single building under Bishop Johann Christoph von Freyberg. Between 1740 and 1752, a renovation in the late Baroque style took place under Prince-Bishop Joseph Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt. Johann Benedikt Ettl designed the main wing in 1743, while Franz Xaver Kleinhans completed the north wing by 1752.
