Princely castle

The former princely castle at Herzog-Ernst-Gasse No. 9 was gifted on January 4, 1561, by Emperor Ferdinand I to imperial councilor Andrae Pögl Freiherr von Reifenstein und Arberg. In 1607, Archduke Ferdinand acquired the property after being asked by the Bruck Magistrate to make his princely residence on the main square available for a town hall. Until 1752, the building served as a regional princely castle. From 1752 to 1925, the house was military accommodation, subsequently an office building for the Gendarmerie. The core of the building dates from the 16th century. Due to several renovations and fires, not much of the original structure is recognizable anymore.
