The Princely Country House in Krauchenwies is a historic castle that serves as a princely residence. It remains to this day in the private possession of the House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen.

History+

The construction of the Princely Country House took place between 1828 and 1832 at the behest of Karl von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. In 1837, Stephanie von Hohenzollern, who later became Queen of Portugal, was born here. From 1872, the estate served Prince Karl Anton zu Hohenzollern as a summer residence. During World War II, when the Vichy regime was housed in Sigmaringen Castle, the Country House was assigned to the princely family as an alternative residence. Prince Friedrich von Hohenzollern passed away in this building in 1965.
