Emersacker Castle
Fugger Castle Emersacker is located in Emersacker in the district of Augsburg. Only remnants of the former Fugger Castle remain.
The nobles of Emersacker erected a castle in their local lordship in the middle of the 12th century. This was destroyed in the Schmalkaldic War. In the following years, the castle was in the hands of several owners. These included the noble families Schertlin von Burtenbach and zu Schaumburg.
In the first third of the 17th century, the castle and town finally passed to the Fugger family, who had previously been owners. They erected a new building there, the main building of which was demolished in the middle of the 19th century.
Today, the round towers with onion domes recall the former imposing castle, in whose preserved parts the town hall of the municipality is housed.
