In Aberdeenshire, Scotland, stands Fyvie Castle, with origins dating back to the 13th century.
History+
The earliest parts of Fyvie Castle date from the 13th century, with some accounts attributing its construction to William the Lion in 1211. Robert the Bruce and Charles I spent part of their childhoods here. After the Battle of Otterburn in 1390, royal ownership ceased, and the castle successively passed to the Preston, Meldrum, Seton, and Gordon families. In 1885, the Scottish industrialist Alexander Leith, later Baron Leith of Fyvie, acquired the estate. His descendants sold the castle to the National Trust for Scotland in 1984.
