Garnisonkirche St. Martin

The church was constructed between 1893 and 1900 as a central component of Albertstadt, a military complex specifically designed for the Saxon army. Its construction was largely financed by French reparations after the Franco-Prussian War. Architects Hermann Viehweger and William Lossow designed the dual church, which was consecrated on October 28, 1900. Three foundation stones – one for each confessional section and a third for the tower – symbolized the confessional separation. During the air raids on Dresden in February 1945, the church remained undamaged.
