The Graue Burg (Grey Castle) in Sechtem is a noble residence, distinguished by its status as a count's castle. Surrounded by a moat, it features a manor house that was rebuilt after a fire in the 18th century.

History+

The Graue Burg was presumably built by the Lords of Saffenburg. Ownership changed hands, including the Counts of Sayn and the Electorate of Cologne. Originally known as a count's castle, its name evolved from Grawe- and Graveburg to its current designation. Following a fire in the 18th century, the associated manor house was rebuilt around 1770 according to designs by architect Johann Georg Leydel.
