The Greiffeneggschlössle, a historic castle, is situated on the Schlossberg in Freiburg im Breisgau. It is known for its views over the city and the surrounding landscape, extending to the Black Forest and the Vosges mountains.

History+

The origins of the Greiffeneggschlössle date back to 1805, when Hermann von Greiffenegg, the last Austrian governor under the Habsburgs, had his retirement residence built on the ruins of a former fortress. The land had been in his possession since 1791. After Freiburg became part of the Grand Duchy of Baden in the same year, the 68-year-old Greiffenegg retired to the country house, built in Empire style. However, he only resided there for two years until his death.
