Grevenburg Castle

The origins of Grevenburg date back to 1536, when the noble Oeynhausen family acquired the land and built a farmstead. Between 1566 and 1579, the estate was expanded into the family's ancestral seat, and a small Renaissance manor house was constructed. Originally, the castle was surrounded by a wide moat and a ring wall. Around 1850, parts of the moat were filled in and ponds were created, marking the beginning of its transformation into a landscape park. Further park redesigns occurred around 1950. The Oeynhausen-Grevenburg family, who also acquired the Oldenburg near Marienmünster in 1592, produced figures such as Arnd von Oeynhausen, who was a captain in Gießen in 1650.
