The Grand Ducal Palace in Heidelberg, originally built as a noble residence, later served as an electoral authority and grand ducal residence before finding its current purpose as the home of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

The construction of the palace took place around 1717 under the direction of the Darmstadt architect Louis Remy de la Fosse, commissioned by Philipp Karl von Hundheim. In 1767, the property passed into the possession of Elector Karl Theodor, who established the regional chancellery there.
