The Gunzoburg in Überlingen on Lake Constance is a medieval patrician house that today houses a gallery. Although its name suggests a ducal residence, its actual history is surrounded by some inconsistencies.

History+

An inscription at the entrance of the Gunzoburg states that Duke Gunzo of Swabia and Alamannia is said to have resided here in 641. However, this claim is questioned by historical facts. The building itself is not a typical ruler's seat but a patrician house, whose origins lie at the earliest in the 13th or 14th century. Furthermore, the city of Überlingen did not exist in the 7th century, as its first mention occurred only in the 8th century.
