Nienrode Manor

The first documented mention of Nienrode occurred in 1191 as "villa nigenroth," with the name "new clearing" indicating a foundation in the 9th century and referring to the older estate of Altenrode. In the Middle Ages, the area belonged to the Leragau and from 815 to the Prince-Bishopric of Hildesheim, later to the Amt Liebenburg. Between 1523 and 1643, Nienrode was part of the Duchy of Brunswick before returning to Hildesheim. Following the secularization of the Bishopric of Hildesheim in 1802 and the Prussian annexation in 1866, Nienrode was incorporated into Ohlendorf in 1928 and has been part of Salzgitter since 1942. From 1190, the Augustinian nunnery of Dorstedt gradually acquired all of Nienrode's land and managed the estate.
