Gut Ullenhausen

Gut Ullenhausen, a historic estate in northeastern Lippe, North Rhine-Westphalia, combines the traces of a monastic past with the architecture of a former noble estate. It stands as a remarkable architectural monument, with origins dating back to the Middle Ages.
History+
The history of Gut Ullenhausen begins around 1240 with the founding of a Benedictine nunnery. This monastery initially gained significance, but its convent gradually dwindled, numbering only five members by 1407. The monastery was dissolved in the 15th century, after which the buildings fell into disrepair, and the property passed into the possession of the Augustinian Hermits in Herford. Count Simon V eventually granted the former monastic grounds as a fief to the Werpup family from Alverdissen, who established Gut Ullenhausen there in 1557 and managed it until 1700. From 1704 to 1798, the estate was owned by the von Alten family, before being sold to the Cordemann family in 1798. In 1937, Heinrich Braband acquired the estate, and his family continues to manage it to this day. The main building, a stone structure with a steep gable and mullioned windows, was constructed in 1596. In the 19th century, the rear gable and parts of the courtyard facade were adorned with half-timbering. The opposing granary, built of quarry stone and half-timbering, was erected in the second half of the 17th century.
