Altenhof Manor

Around 1550, the Altenhof estate came into the possession of the von Brockdorff family, who had the first manor house built, presumably on the site of today's south wing. In 1691, the estate changed hands when Mette Brockdorff sold it to Henning von Reventlow. His son, Cay Friedrich von Reventlow, had the current manor house constructed between 1722 and 1728. His son Detlev, a count since 1767, served as tutor to the Danish King Christian VII and played a role in the negotiations for the Treaty of Tsarskoye Selo in 1773. Cay Friedrich Graf von Reventlow, Detlev's eldest son, headed the German Chancellery in Copenhagen from 1797 to 1802.
