Badingen Manor

The later estate emerged from the consolidation of several noble estates in Badingen in the 18th century into a unified property of the von Rundstedt family, who had been resident in the community since 1431.

Werner Ludolf Otto von Rundstedt had a new manor house with an economic courtyard built between 1837 and 1839. The house was constructed as a single-winged, seven-axis, classical brick-plastered building with a central risalit. It is partly built in half-timbered construction on a fieldstone foundation. Above a high plinth floor are the main and mezzanine floors, topped by a gabled roof. The seven-hectare park was designed by the royal garden director Peter Joseph Lenné.

After the death of Werner von Rundstedt (1922), the castle was no longer regularly inhabited by the family, initially co-used by the estate administration, and finally rented out. In the 1930s, female Reich Labour Service members were quartered there.

At the end of the war, Badingen was first occupied by the Americans and then handed over to the Soviet Union. The von Rundstedt family was dispossessed and expelled. The castle temporarily served as a recreation home for members of the Red Army. In 1946, it was partly used as a school, partly as a home for war orphans, and finally handed over to the Stendal district for use, which operated the "Geschwister Scholl" children's home there. The home was closed in 1983. Since then, the building has visibly deteriorated.

Since 1995, the house and park have been undergoing restoration.
