Bellnhausen Manor

Towards the end of the 13th century, the Lords of Bellnhausen built the small tower castle Bellnhausen, a motte, on an earth mound surrounded by a moat. The associated small settlement of Belnhusen is first mentioned in 1324 in Amöneburg cellar accounts. In 1324 and 1360, the Archdiocese of Mainz held the tithe rights in Bellnhausen. Over time, the castle's farmstead developed into a considerable estate, which, after the extinction of the Lords of Bellnhausen in 1556, changed hands several times through enfeoffment or lease. The old castle is already mentioned as dilapidated in the 17th century and was demolished in the 18th or early 19th century; only minor wall remains and parts of the moat are preserved.

The estate complex was significantly expanded and developed in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1867, Bellnhausen became a Prussian state domain. In 1885, its cadastral area comprised 103 hectares of arable land and 25 hectares of meadows. At that time, there were three residential houses with 33 inhabitants on the domain.

The domain and the estate district were dissolved in 1928. The manor was incorporated into Itzenhain, and the former Bellnhausen cadastral area largely went to the municipality of Itzenhain, but partly also to Winterscheid and Appenhain.
