Bellnhausen Manor

The origins of the estate date back to the late 13th century, when the Lords of Bellnhausen constructed a small tower castle, a so-called motte, on an earthen mound surrounded by a moat. The associated settlement of Belnhusen is first mentioned in Amöneburg cellar accounts from 1324. In 1324 and 1360, the Archbishopric of Mainz held the tithe rights in Bellnhausen. The original economic farmstead of the castle developed into an estate. After the Lords of Bellnhausen died out in 1556, the estate changed hands several times through enfeoffment or lease. The old castle was already mentioned as dilapidated in the 17th century and was demolished in the 18th or early 19th century; today, only minor wall remnants and parts of the moat remain.
