Bömitz Manor

The Bömitz manor in Western Pomerania, formerly belonging to Sweden, was first mentioned in the 14th century. The current manor house was built in 1751 by Hermann Christoph von Hertell, a knightly captain. The mighty foundation walls and the vaulted cellar suggest the presence of a castle, which was probably destroyed during the Thirty Years' War.

Over time, the manor frequently changed owners - until 1792 it was owned by the von Hertell family; thereafter the Lords von Blankerhahn; in 1802 the Lords von Zansen; until 1907 the Finelius family; then Erich Siegel. The last owner was the leather manufacturer Dr. Grunert from Frankfurt (Main), who sold the estate in 1924 to the Pomeranian Landgesellschaft, which settled it between 1925 and 1927. Later it came into the possession of the Greifswald district administration. Julius Bröckel established a retirement home in the manor house in 1929 and ran it until 1952.

The manor house stood empty for a long time and fell into disrepair. In the spring of 1994, it was renovated by Adelheid Neumann and Sean Backmann. Today, the manor house serves as a hotel.
