Boldevitz Manor

The history of the Boldevitz estate dates back to the 13th century when it was owned by the von Rotermund family. Around 1600, the core of the current manor house was built under Claus von Rotermund, and it was later renovated around 1635 or between 1655 and 1658 under Philipp von Rotermund. Stones from a former church were allegedly used for this purpose. After the male line of the Rotermunds died out in 1712, ownership passed to the Swedish General Carl Gustav Graf Mellin. In 1744, the von Putbus family acquired the estate, before it was sold to Adolf Friedrich von Olthof in 1762. Olthof promoted the arts and brought the painter Jakob Philipp Hackert to Boldevitz, where he created landscape tapestries with Rügen motifs between 1762 and 1764. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe later mentioned the estate in a Hackert biography. During this period, side wings were also added and a park was laid out.
